Haiti Update: August 23, 2021

Let me start by sharing that everyone on the team is healthy, strong and doing well. Sunday’s activity was tweaked then tweaked again as God directed, opening new doors and temporarily closing yet others. He is protecting, providing and leading and the team is obediently following.

The team began their day having communion and devotions together then, with their translators, headed to the Les Cayes Hospital. Much of the hospital was destroyed and about 50 patients, of all ages with all types of injuries, are being treated on the floor or in a tent that is being used as the emergency room. While the team awaited the arrival of the Medical Director who would give them permission to treat patients during their time in Haiti, they had the privilege of moving among the patients offering ministry and prayer. When you are a patient at the Les Cayes Hospital, it is expected that your family will provide your food and water. Our team met a female patient who had lost all 4 members of her family in the earthquake and had no one to bring her food and water. Suffice it to say she received food and water, prayer and love. Reminds me of Matt 10:42 and Mark 9:41. One of our team was approached and asked to help because a 12-day old baby had stopped breathing. The baby was resuscitated, stabilized and was to be relocated to a facility that could offer the level of care needed.

Time had passed and the Les Cayes Medical Director had not yet arrived so the team opted to deliver the crutches to The Samaritan’s Purse Field Hospital. Sam’s Purse personnel reported that they had dispensed their entire supply of crutches and would be without until their next supply delivery. The team presented them with two dozen pair of crutches. Team members toured the facility, then it was back to Les Cayes to meet the Medical Director. Since the team would have gotten a much later-than-anticipated start to Jeremie, the decision was made to reschedule Jeremie. It would not have been wise to take a chance of driving back to Les Cayes after dark so Jeremie is in future plans this week.

What are the plans for the team this week? Monday and Tuesday will be devoted to seeing patients in Les Cayes and at Les Cayes Hospital before heading for Jeremie. The team will have clinics in Jeremie Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. While in Jeremie, they will be based in the YWAM compound.

· For the lady in Les Cayes with no family and the 12- day old baby who needed to be resuscitated.

· Thank God for the unity and community demonstrated on the team.

· God’s ongoing safety and guidance as the team moves to Jeremie.
